What is this tool?
A free chord reference that goes both ways: look up the notes of a chord by name, or tap notes on the piano and see which chord names match. Shows both piano and guitar views so you can quickly answer "what notes are in this chord?" or "what chord do these notes make?"
When it helps
-
Decoding unfamiliar chord symbols
Hit Cadd9 or F#m7b5 in a chart and want to know what you're actually playing? See the notes instantly.
-
Verifying notes during transcription
Tap the notes you think you hear on the piano and the tool suggests matching chord names.
-
Finding keys that contain a chord
Jump from any chord to the list of keys where it's diatonic — a handy bridge into the diatonic chord tool.
How to use
- 1 Pick 'Search by name' or 'Identify by notes' from the top tabs.
- 2 Name search: choose a root and chord type — the notes and piano highlight update automatically.
- 3 Note identification: tap notes on the piano (3+ notes gives the most reliable match).
- 4 Use the ▶ in the bottom dock to hear the chord and confirm it by ear.
- 5 Tap 'Keys containing this chord' to jump into the diatonic tool for any of those keys.
