Roman Numeral Analysis

What is tested

Given a passage, you label each chord with a roman numeral and the correct inversion figure. The exam expects case to carry quality — upper case for major, lower case for minor — plus the ° and ø symbols where they apply.

Common mistakes

Case gets dropped under time pressure, which throws away information the marker is looking for. Upper case means major, lower case means minor, ° means diminished and ø means half-diminished — the case is part of the answer, not formatting.
