Triads and Inversions
What is tested
You will write a triad on a named degree of a given key, identify which inversion a printed chord is in, and name a chord from notes on the staff. Recognizing the inversion from the spacing on the page is a skill worth drilling separately.
Common mistakes
A chord printed with wide spacing between the upper voices is often read as a different inversion. The inversion is decided by the lowest sounding note and nothing else, however the notes above it are arranged.
